For Father's Day, I received a dvd of "10,000 Leagues Under the Sea"...in the bonus features, it shows the giant squid fight as it was first filmed, in a red sunset background. Disney thought the squid looked fake, (it did) so they reshot it in a stormy scene...Disney had the 35mm camera negatives and workprints of the original fight destroyed...but a 16mm print of it survived, which is one the dvd...it looks **** good for a smaller format! There is obvious grain in the background, but it really comes close to the 35mm look! Small formats rule!

Well, 10,000 leagues is half of 20,000, kind of goes along with it being a 16mm print instead of a 35mm print.

The 16mm print probably came from the 35mm print so most of the quality probably is retained. Another example is the Super-8 filmmaker magazine jpeg currently posted on the forum.

Before I shrunk it down to it's final forum size, you could not read the volume and year, and the bold titles were barely legible.
